Anicet Bongo Ondimba

President of the Foundation

As the son of President Omar Bongo Ondimba, Anicet Bongo has taken on the responsibility of carrying forward the values his father championed: peace, unity, development, and African dignity.


As President of the Omar Bongo Ondimba International Foundation, he represents a new generation committed to honoring this legacy while addressing the challenges of our time.

Under his leadership, the Foundation works with integrity and purpose to foster dialogue, support African youth, and bridge memory with future.

Legacy of President Omar Bongo Ondimba

A Life Dedicated to Peace, Africa, and Gabon

President Omar Bongo Ondimba (1935–2009) left a lasting mark on Gabon, Africa, and the world through his unwavering commitment to peace, national unity, and diplomacy. Leading Gabon for over 41 years, he made stability a foundation for development, dialogue a method of governance, and African unity a lifelong ideal.

I have always strived to prioritize dialogue, to seek consensus, and to preserve peace — for without peace, there is neither development nor a future for our children.


Journey and Commitments

Born in Lewai (now Bongoville), Omar Bongo Ondimba rose through the ranks of government and became president in 1967, succeeding President Léon M’ba. His presidency is remembered for::

  • Institutional stability and peace in a region often affected by unrest.

  • Promotion of interreligious, interethnic, and political dialogue, both in Gabon and across Africa.

  • Active diplomacy, positioning Gabon as a respected mediator in African conflicts.

  • State development, with improvements in infrastructure, education, and health.


Builder of African Unity

A strong believer in Africa’s collective future, Omar Bongo engaged in all major regional integration efforts: CEMAC, the African Union, the Francophonie, and the United Nations. He was a quiet yet powerful peacemaker, playing key roles in resolving conflicts in Angola, Chad, Congo, and the Central African Republic.

His legacy transcends borders. It is grounded in universal values: dialogue, peace, solidarity, and justice. The Omar Bongo Ondimba International Foundation is committed to bringing this legacy to life through concrete projects in education, diplomacy, sustainable development, and remembrance.
